WWII Posters

Posters were an important recruitment and propaganda tool during the war. Because posters were inexpensive and easily accessible, they were ideal for inspiring patriotism, and boosting efficiency and morale in the average citizen. Government agencies, businesses, and private organizations issued an array of poster images, often drawn by well-known artists of the day. In 1941, the Museum of Modern Art organized a National Defense Poster Competition, sponsored by the museum and two of the largest users of posters, the Army Air Corps and the Treasury Department. Between 1941 and 1945, millions of these posters were produced.
