The Army Air Corps Library and Museum maintains an extensive collection of published works that serve as invaluable research resources for our historians. This carefully curated library represents decades of aviation history, offering comprehensive coverage of American military aviation from its earliest days through the Vietnam era.
Our book collection spans a remarkable breadth of subjects and time periods. Within these volumes, researchers find detailed unit histories that chronicle the experiences of specific squadrons and groups, preserving the stories of the men who served and the missions they flew. Biographical works bring to life the personal narratives of pilots, crew members, and commanders, from fighter aces to bomber crews, offering intimate perspectives on the challenges and triumphs of aerial warfare.
The technical dimension of our collection is equally impressive, featuring detailed examinations of aircraft design, performance specifications, and operational capabilities. These works cover everything from the legendary fighters and bombers of World War II to the jet-powered aircraft that defined the Cold War era and Vietnam conflict. Whether studying the heavy bombardment groups that struck at the heart of enemy industry or the fighter squadrons that battled for air supremacy, researchers find comprehensive technical and operational information.
Our World War II holdings are particularly extensive, documenting both the European and Pacific theaters of operation. The Pacific theater collection includes works on island-hopping campaigns, carrier-based operations, and the unique challenges of warfare across vast oceanic distances. The collection also extends beyond American aviation, incorporating important works on British, French, and German aircraft, providing crucial comparative perspectives and context for understanding the global nature of aerial combat.
The collection continues through the jet age, documenting the transition from propeller-driven aircraft to jets, and extends into the Vietnam era, capturing a transformative period in military aviation history. From strategic bombing campaigns to tactical fighter operations, from reconnaissance missions to transport operations, these books collectively preserve the diverse roles that airpower played across multiple conflicts and eras.
These volumes are not merely historical curiosities—they are active research tools used by our team of scholars seeking to understand the rich heritage of American military aviation. The Army Air Corps Museum is proud to have this collection enabling our team to ensure that the stories, technical achievements, and sacrifices of those who served in America's air forces are preserved for future generations.
We continue to add to this library and research material; if you have any books, periodicals, newspapers and other written works to contribute, please contact us.
