Next Steps: Colonel Begley was a member of the 421st Tactical Fighter Squadron. On December 5, 1966, he was the pilot of a Thunderchief Fighter (F-105D) on a combat mission over North Vietnam when he was attacked by a MiG-17 and his aircraft crashed 15 miles from Yen Bai, Phu Tho Province, south of the Red River. His remains were recovered on November 26, 1986 and identified on April 18, 1996. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial. **
